Marcus Rashford is on the same level as Kylian Mbappe ‘when he has the eye of the tiger,’ reckons former Manchester United and France striker Louis Saha.

Both forwards have shone at the World Cup so far and will clash on Saturday when England and France meet in the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Mbappe has scored five goals at the tournament, while Rashford has managed three, although the Red Devils forward has only started two of England’s four games so far.

Despite not being a guaranteed starter in Gareth Southgate’s team, Saha reckons Rashford can play at the same standard as Mbappe, who many believe to be the best player on the planet.

Saha also prefers Rashford to Harry Kane due to his style of play, as he heaps praise on the 25-year-old.

‘I really like Marcus Rashford, you know he can be a starter, he’s such a talent and threat,’ said Saha, via The Mirror.

‘When Rashford has the eye of the tiger, he’s unplayable and at the same level as Mbappe. I love Harry Kane, but Rashford is just a humongous talent and I love to see him at this level.

‘Kane is the best player, but Rashford is my favourite player in the England squad because of his style and I really enjoy watching him play. Rashford is more complete, but it does not mean he fits well in every game plan.’

Rashford started and scored twice against Wales in the final group game but found himself on the bench again in the last 16 against Senegal.

Saha says rotation is necessary sometimes, but thinks Rashford is a better option than Bukayo Saka, who replaced him against the African champions.

‘There will be times where fresh legs are needed in the squad,’ said the retired striker. ‘Bukayo Saka is very good positionally, but Rashford has more ability and physicality, and he can score headers too.’
