The entertaining beef between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero took an unexpected turn when the boxer left a WhatsApp voice note with the former Manchester City striker.

This all kicked off when Canelo thought Messi was disrespecting his country after Argentina beat Mexico at the World Cup in Qatar.

The boxer thought Messi had kicked a Mexico shirt across the dressing room floor and was absolutely fuming about it.

‘Did you guys see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag,’ said Canelo.

‘He better pray to God that I don’t find him. Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico!

‘I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi did.

‘Since the Mexico shirt is on the ground, it’s already an insult. Stop bulls***ing about what was or wasn’t.’

Aguero had tried to step in and calm the situation, writing to Canelo on social media: ‘Mr. Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, surely you don’t know about football and what happens in a locker room.

‘The shirts are always on the floor after games due to sweat, and then if you see well, he makes the movement to remove the boot and accidentally hits it.’

However, he then had a serious fright, as he revealed that Canelo left him an angry audio message and it’s fair to say Aguero freaked out.

‘He sent me an audio,’ said Aguero. ‘Do you know how much I s**t myself? When I saw my WhatsApp and I read “Canelo audio message” I said “oh, s**t”.

‘He told me: “You s**thead, I liked you, a**hole”.

Lionel Messi

Messi seemingly kicking the Mexico shirt enraged Canelo

‘I replied: “Mr. Canelo, I think you’re wrong, you do not know Leo, at no time was he stepping on the Mexico shirt. Admit that you’re wrong”, and he told me to respect his opinion.’

The beef has since been squashed, with Canelo admitting that he stepped out of line and apologising.

‘These last few days I got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and made comments that were out of place for which I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina,’ Canelo wrote on Twitter.

‘Every day we learn something new and this time it was my turn.’
