Wayne Rooney calls for Tyson Fury to be knighted following his win over Derek Chisora on Saturday evening.

Fury defended his WBC heavyweight belt with a dominant display against Chisora, who was pulled out of the fight by referee Victor Loughlin in the 10th round.

Fury’s latest victory now sets up an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles after beating Anthony Joshua twice.

Rooney, meanwhile, was ringside to watch Fury’s win over Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and believes the Gypsy King should be honoured for his achievements in boxing.

‘I think he’s the best we’ve seen in a long time, and I don’t think anyone will beat him,’ Rooney told talkSPORT.

‘I think he’s an absolute legend for what he’s done for boxing. He’s entertaining, his skills are incredible, his mentality is incredible.

‘If I’m being honest, I probably think he should be knighted because he hasn’t been afraid to go abroad, he’s won titles abroad, defended them abroad and he epitomises everything that boxing is.’

Meanwhile, Fury has revealed that he may need to undergo surgery ahead of his title showdown with Usyk next year.

‘I’ve got some elbow problems. I’ve got to maybe have surgery on my right elbow,’ Fury said.

‘I had the left one done back in October [2021] after the Wilder fight, so I’ve got to have it done.

‘It will take about six to eight weeks to heal.

‘We’ll see when we can be ready for this fight, we’ll see when it can be made.’
