The police charged Mohammed Abubakar, 48, and Thompson Ola, 42, of Karmajiji village, Abuja, with joint acts of cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that sometime in September, the defendants walked into the complainant’s shop and collected three bottles of perfumes worth N11,000 with a promise to transfer the money electronically.

The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each who must live within the court jurisdiction, and the court officer and police must verify their address.

Mohammed ordered that the sureties national ID card or driver’s License be kept in court.

He adjourned the case until December 22 for further hearing. (NAN)
