Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected prison release date has been adjusted again by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, with current records now listing February 23, 2028, as his expected release timeline.
The update reflects standard recalculations linked to federal sentencing credits, rehabilitation programme participation, and conduct-related adjustments. However, prison system experts say the music mogul could still be eligible for release earlier, potentially in 2027, depending on his participation in approved correctional programmes.
Combs is currently serving a 50-month sentence following his conviction on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution under the Mann Act. He was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.
The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly explained the latest adjustment, but experts point to several factors that commonly influence such changes, including good conduct time, First Step Act credits, and eligibility for the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP).
RDAP, one of the most significant rehabilitation programmes in the federal prison system, can reduce a sentence by up to 12 months for eligible inmates. Participation also increases access to transitional custody arrangements such as halfway houses or home confinement.
Federal corrections analysts note that Combs’ placement at FCI Fort Dix is relevant because the facility offers access to RDAP and other re-entry programmes that may impact his release timeline.
In addition, the First Step Act allows inmates to earn credits through approved work and rehabilitation programmes, which can accelerate transfer to less restrictive custody. These credits, combined with institutional behaviour, often shape the actual time served beyond the initial court sentence.
Despite the updated 2028 date, consultants caution that such projections are not fixed. Disciplinary records, programme availability, and administrative processing delays can all shift release expectations in either direction.
Some experts believe that if Combs fully participates in available programmes and maintains eligibility, a transition to home confinement or halfway house placement could begin as early as mid-to-late 2027.
However, officials stress that any early release scenario remains conditional and subject to federal prison system rules and approvals.
