Roy Keane’s wish came true as Wout Weghorst registered his first Manchester United assist in the 2-0 win over Leeds on Sunday after admitting at half-time that he ‘wanted more’ from the on-loan striker.

Weghorst moved to Old Trafford on loan in the January transfer window and despite scoring in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest last month, the Netherlands striker is still yet to register his first Premier League goal for United.

The 30-year-old striker did, however register his first United assist as Erik ten Hag’s side won 2-0 at Elland Road in his fifth top-flight appearance for the side.

Keane shared his verdict on Weghost at half-time, when the score was locked at 0-0, and told Sky Sports: ‘Do you know, he’s done okay.

‘I think that’s the best compliment I can give him, you think playing for Man United they need a bit more, maybe he needs better service, but I want a bit more from him.’

After those comments, United produced a strong second-half display with goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho securing all three points.

Keane was delighted with that particular duo at full-time as he spoke about both goals and said: ‘It’s brilliant, brilliant quality, a great switch of play.

‘We were waiting for United, they still hadn’t done much up to this point.

‘A lovely switch of play, a brilliant first touch by Luke Shaw, lovely delivery, Rashford, love to see that headed goal.

‘Brilliant from United. Real quality, that’s what we wanted to see.’

Quizzed about Garnacho, Keane added: ‘He give a good option from the bench. Lovely finish.

‘People always criticise goalkeepers, say they shouldn’t be beaten at the near post but I think it’s a decent finish.

‘The defender thinks he’s got him, but he hasn’t got the pace to catch up with him. It’s game over, a very good result for United and fully deserved.’
