Suspected bandits have abducted students of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda following a late-night attack on an off-campus student residence in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State.
The attack reportedly occurred between Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town, where armed men stormed a student lodge and whisked away several occupants amid gunfire.
Initial reports indicated that seven students were abducted during the incident. However, police authorities later confirmed that one of the victims managed to escape, leaving six students still in captivity, including three male and three female students according to local accounts.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident and said security operatives have intensified rescue operations to secure the safe release of the victims. He also stated that security around the school premises has been strengthened to prevent further attacks.
Kaura Namoda Local Government Chairman, Mannir Haidara Kaura, also confirmed the abduction and assured residents that security agencies were actively pursuing the kidnappers.
The incident has renewed concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Zamfara State, where attacks on schools, communities, and travelers have continued despite ongoing military operations. Residents and advocacy groups in the area have raised fresh alarms over repeated kidnappings and the growing fear among students and lecturers.
