According to a statement by Mr. Bolaji Tunji, the Minister’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Adelabu highlighted the importance of addressing the root cause of electricity challenges. He emphasized that previous temporary solutions had not effectively tackled the underlying issues.

Encouraging state governments to take advantage of the new Electricity Act, Adelabu emphasized the need for unity and cooperation between federal and state authorities in addressing power sector challenges.

He cited the example of Abia State, where Geometrics Power Limited has successfully established a power generating plant providing 24-hour electricity to several local government areas

The Minister advised state governments to invest in distribution networks and bridge the metering gap, suggesting that they could negotiate with Distribution Companies (DisCos) to capitalize on their investments.

He also proposed state involvement in selecting executive management for DisCos, given the significant stake state governments hold in these companies.

Prince Eka Williams, Chairman of the Forum and Commissioner of Power and Energy in Cross River State, reiterated the states’ support for the Federal Government’s electricity reforms. He emphasized that the Electricity Act entrusts states with the responsibility of managing electricity affairs within their jurisdictions.
