The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area have been released.
In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, described the reports as false, misleading and unsubstantiated, urging the public to disregard them.
According to the police, there has been no official confirmation that the victims abducted from Ahoro, Esiele and Yawota communities have regained their freedom.
“The claim is false, misleading and entirely unsubstantiated. As of the time of this release, there has been no such development,” Ayanlade said.
The Command assured residents and families of the victims that security agencies are intensifying efforts to secure the safe rescue of the abductees and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
Police also warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that misinformation could create unnecessary panic, undermine ongoing security operations and threaten public order.
