The Oyo State House of Assembly has rejected calls for the state government to negotiate with kidnappers who abducted teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area.
Lawmakers instead called for intensified rescue operations and stronger security measures to secure the release of all victims and prevent future attacks on schools and communities.
The Assembly also urged the establishment of a permanent military base in the area, security audits of vulnerable schools, improved support for local security outfits, and faster action on state policing.
Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin said negotiating with kidnappers could encourage further attacks, stressing that efforts should remain focused on rescue operations, intelligence gathering and strengthening security across the state.
