The United States and Russia must continue their dialogue on nuclear disarmament.
This was disclosed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday.
Peskov was reacting to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recently announced proposal to initiate discussions on nuclear disarmament between Washington, Moscow, and Beijing.
“This matter is on the agenda,” Peskov told reporters during a press briefing while responding to Trump’s recently announced proposal to initiate nuclear disarmament.
“We believe that dialogue between Russia and the United States on arms control is crucial, especially concerning strategic stability.”
He added, “It is critical both from the perspective of the interests of our two nations and for international security.”
Trump pledged to make denuclearization a goal in his second term as his administration looks to realign the U.S.-Russia relationship and craft a peace settlement to end the three-year war between Ukraine and Russia.
“It would be great if everybody got rid of their nuclear weapons,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday.
