New York helicopter company shut down after crash that killed six

New York Helicopter Tours, the company that operated the helicopter which crashed into the Hudson River in New York last week, killing all six people on board, will shut down immediately.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) late Sunday.

The FAA said the company is “shutting down their operations immediately,” in a statement posted on X.

It added that the company’s license and safety records will be reviewed.

New York Helicopter Tours is already being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, which stated that the helicopter was not fitted with any flight recorders or on-board cameras.

A family of five visiting from Spain were killed when the helicopter plunged into the river on Thursday.

They were Agustin Escobar, 49; Mercè Camprubí Montal, 39; and their three children, Victor, 4; Mercedes, 8; and Agustin, 10. The pilot, 36-year-old Seankese Johnson, was a U.S. Navy veteran who qualified as a commercial pilot in 2023 with more than 800 hours of flying time.
