The Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation (NAMYO), Africa Region, has launched the NAMYO Volunteer Network (NVN) Africa, a continent-wide initiative aimed at mobilising young people for service, leadership development, and sustainable growth across Africa.
The launch represents a major step in expanding youth participation in governance, development advocacy, and grassroots action, in line with NAMYO’s mission of empowering young people across member states of the Non-Aligned Movement.
NAMYO is the official youth arm of the Non-Aligned Movement and was established in 2021 to provide platforms for idea exchange, skills development, and youth-led responses to global and regional challenges. The organisation draws membership from over 100 countries worldwide.
Speaking on the initiative, NAMYO Africa Vice Chairman, Bello Shagari, explained that the Volunteer Network was created as a response to Africa’s rapidly growing youth population. He noted that young people make up a significant share of the continent’s population and must be actively engaged in productive, development-oriented activities.
According to Shagari, the NAMYO Volunteer Network is designed to channel the energy and creativity of African youth into structured volunteerism, leadership training, civic engagement, and sustainable development projects across communities.
The NVN Africa platform is expected to operate across multiple African countries, offering young people opportunities to participate in social development initiatives, policy advocacy, capacity-building programmes, and cross-border collaboration, while strengthening Africa’s collective youth voice on the global stage.
Newspot Nigeria reports that the initiative reflects a growing continental shift toward positioning young Africans not just as beneficiaries of policy decisions, but as active contributors to development, innovation, and governance.
