TREASURY SINGLE ACCOUNT (TSA)
The Treasury Single Account, a financial policy introduced nationally in 2012 and fully implemented at the federal level under a previous administration, has been adopted globally to promote accountability and curb financial leakages.
Governor Eno’s decision to implement the TSA at the state level marks a deliberate and practical step toward strengthening transparency and fiscal discipline in Akwa Ibom State.
Under the policy, ministries, departments, and agencies are prohibited from independently spending revenue they generate. All funds must be paid into a central TSA managed by the state government. Compliance is mandatory, and sanctions will apply to defaulters.
This reform enhances the government’s ability to monitor revenue inflows, eliminate leakages, and optimise public resources. Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Eno has consistently pursued people-focused and accountability-driven policies.
Public reaction across the state has been largely positive, with citizens applauding the administration’s commitment to transparent governance.
2026 APPROPRIATION BILL
Governor Umo Eno signed into law the ₦1,584,271,856,630.00 Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year.
- Recurrent expenditure: ₦416,594,925,850.00 (24%)
- Capital expenditure: ₦1,167,676,930,780.00 (76%)
The capital-heavy budget reflects a deliberate strategy to invest in infrastructure, stimulate growth, create jobs, and deliver long-term value to citizens.
The budget-signing ceremony took place during an enlarged State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Uyo, attended by the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Udeme Otong.
Governor Eno commended the synergy between the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, noting that collaboration has driven the administration’s achievements. He charged members of the Executive Council to embrace urgency, commitment, and excellence in service delivery, stressing that 2026 is “a year for action.”
RECLAMATION OF UYO VILLAGE REFUSE DUMP-SITE
Governor Eno disclosed plans to transform the reclaimed Uyo Village refuse dump-site into a modern Government Residential Area, featuring middle-income housing and a creative village.
The site, spanning over 100 hectares, was previously a refuse dump and erosion-prone ravine. It has now been reclaimed, sand-filled, and mapped for sustainable development with proper drainage systems.
The Governor explained that the project will reduce housing deficits, open new urban development corridors, address erosion challenges, and create opportunities in housing, agriculture, and the creative industry, all within proximity to Uyo city centre.
He emphasised quality delivery, timely execution, and youth participation, noting that infrastructural development remains a catalyst for job creation and economic growth.
ARISE WITH RENEWED HOPE INITIATIVE
Receiving the ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative, Governor Eno stressed the need for sustained peace and development as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
He commended the group’s diversity and unity, describing it as a reflection of the Akwa Ibom spirit and urging citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise by Independent National Electoral Commission.
The group reaffirmed support for Bola Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio, Governor Eno, and other party candidates, pledging mobilisation across the state.
