Gombe PDP women leaders tackle ex-party chieftains

Some women leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State have called the bluff of the threat by former female chieftains of the party to defect to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2023 general election in the state.

The group, The Gombe PDP Women Solidarity Assembly, while declaring support for the party’s Governorship candidate, Hon. Mohammed Barde, described the threat as empty.

Five former female ex-officio members of the party, led by Ms Mole Istifanus, were said to have threatened to leave the party, alleging neglect.

However, the Chairperson of the group, Hajiya Hadiza Musa, in a statement released to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday, said the threat by the party’s female leaders was “an empty threat against Barde by renegade politicians, sponsored by defeated candidates in the last PDP primaries, who have no regard for the spirit of sportsmanship”.

She noted that the gang up and sponsored campaign of calumny against the party’s Governorship candidate in the state would fail, stating that only God could stop Barde’s electoral victory in the forthcoming polls.

“If Barde, our Gombe 2023 PDP governorship candidate, had not been a strong-willed politician, given the gang-up by his rivals and their well-oiled media propaganda machine, he would have by now lost interest in the race.

“I think his rivals, who are operating from the shadows, are already losing out in this game while expending resources, time and energy without success.

“Those ganging up against the PDP governorship flagbearer are operating from the shadows with a multimillion naira budget. They will fail woefully because the masses, who are the majority voters in Gombe State, are solidly behind Hon Barde; don’t forget that we received a massive number of women defectors to the PDP,” Musa stated.
