The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has expressed deep sorrow over the gruesome killing of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, widely known in the business community as Fish Magnet, describing his death as a tragic indictment of the worsening security situation in Anambra State.
In a strongly worded statement made available to Newspot Nigeria, the group condemned the abduction and subsequent murder of the Awka-based entrepreneur despite a ransom reportedly being paid. Mr. Onyekere, a respected figure in the state’s fish farming industry, was also celebrated for his role in mentoring youth and supporting grassroots economic empowerment.
“This reprehensible act once again highlights the alarming breakdown of law and order in the region,” FOSAD stated. “It reflects the growing inability of the state to guarantee the safety of its citizens.”
FOSAD further called on security agencies to swiftly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that justice must not be delayed in a matter so brutal and destabilizing.
They also issued a stern charge to the Anambra State Government, urging it to take decisive action to protect lives and property, warning that “insecurity continues to cast a long shadow over the state.”
“This is not just a personal tragedy for the family and friends of Mr. Onyekere, but a grave loss for the Anambra business community and the wider South-East region,” said FOSAD President, Dr. Stephen Nwala, and Secretary General, Dr. Uzor Ngoladi, in the joint statement.
The academic body closed its statement with a resolute declaration: Enough is enough.

FOSAD mourns the murder of Ifesinachi Onyekere aka Fish Magnet, says security has failed in Anambra
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) expresses deep sorrow and outrage over the brutal and senseless murder of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, a prominent businessman based in Awka, Anambra State.
This reprehensible act once again highlights the alarming breakdown of law and order in the region, and the growing inability of the state to guarantee the safety of its citizens.
Mr. Onyekere, a respected fish farmer and entrepreneur, was known for his contributions to local commerce and youth empowerment.
His untimely death owing to kidnap and brutal murder after payment of ransom is not only a personal tragedy for his family and associates, but also a grave loss to the Anambra business community.
FOSAD condemns this heinous crime in the strongest terms and calls on security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
We equally urge the Anambra State Government to rise to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property, as insecurity continues to cast a long shadow over the state.
