The attention of the authentic leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, under the chairmanship of Otunba Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde, has been drawn to a purported press release issued by a group of illegal and self-imposed individuals parading themselves as local government chairmen in the state.
This was contained in the statement signed by the Authentic ALGON Chairman, Otunba Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde and cited by Newspotng
It states that ‘We categorically reveal that the said publication is nothing but an afterthought and a desperate attempt to cover up the illegal withdrawal and misapplication of public funds allegedly siphoned from the coffers of local governments, particularly through the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
The so-called road grading exercise being publicized is not only deceptive but also a calculated move to create a false impression of performance in the face of glaring illegitimacy. It is important to emphasize that no amount of hurried or cosmetic grading of roads, nor indiscriminate sharing of public funds, can shield these impostors from the full weight of the law.
The authentic ALGON leadership wishes to put on record that every kobo illegally withdrawn or expended from local government allocations shall be duly accounted for. The appropriate legal processes will take their course, and those found culpable will face the consequences in no distant time.
Furthermore, we reaffirm that the people of Osun State are fully aware of their legitimately elected local government chairmen. They know those they entrusted with their mandate through the ballot, and no level of propaganda or misinformation can alter this reality.
We therefore urge the general public to remain vigilant and to continue to regard the so-called “Yes/No” chairmen as impostors and individuals whose actions are not only illegal but also fraudulent and inimical to the democratic process and the development of grassroots governance in Osun State.
The authentic ALGON in Osun State remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting public resources, and ensuring that governance at the grassroots reflects the true will of the people.
