Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dismissed criticism from the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as an “abysmal failure in governance.”
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor said Oyebamiji lacked the record to criticise what he described as a widely commended administration in Osun State.
Adeleke said his government had recorded strong performance across health, education, water, fiscal transparency and infrastructure. He argued that the administration’s achievements had earned praise from residents across political divides.
The governor said Osogbo, the state capital, had witnessed visible improvement under his administration. He maintained that residents of the capital city had endorsed his re-election because of what he described as major upgrades in public infrastructure.
Adeleke also defended his administration’s record in education and healthcare. He said schools and health facilities across the state had undergone coordinated rehabilitation, while teachers and health workers had received improved welfare packages.
According to him, Osun moved from 33rd position under the previous administration to 7th position in NECO ratings for 2024 and 2025. He also claimed that the state ranked first in the South West for primary healthcare access in 2024 and 2025.
The governor rejected Oyebamiji’s criticism of his administration’s local content policy, saying the policy had empowered Osun-based businesses and contractors. He accused the APC candidate of favouring capital flight instead of supporting policies that allow Osun resources to benefit residents.
Adeleke denied awarding contracts to incompetent firms, insisting that all contracts awarded by his administration followed due process, procurement laws and proper checks on the financial and technical capacity of bidding companies.
He said the competence of contractors handling state projects had been demonstrated through ongoing infrastructure works, including bridges and road projects in Osogbo, Ila, Ilesa, Iwo, Ile-Ife and other parts of the state.
The governor also accused Oyebamiji of mishandling public responsibilities in previous offices, including at Osun State Investment Company Limited, the finance ministry and the inland waterways agency.
Adeleke further described the Ido-Osun Aviation City project promoted by the former administration as problematic, saying his government had been working to salvage complications linked to the project.
He said his record as governor had been applauded even by political opponents and maintained that Osun residents were already enjoying the dividends of democracy under his leadership.
The governor concluded that the people of Osun would vote to sustain what he described as good governance in the forthcoming governorship election.
