From Dispatch Room
Bello Bala Shagari has announced his decision to contest for the position of Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, NAMYO, describing the move as an important step towards strengthening youth cooperation among member states.
Shagari said the decision followed extensive consultations and was taken with the approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, for supporting his candidacy.
According to him, the election represents a historic moment for NAMYO, as it is expected to be the organization’s first democratic election for the office of Chairperson. He added that it could also mark the first time the organization would elect a Chairperson from outside Azerbaijan.
NAMYO is an international youth platform that brings together young people from member states of the Non-Aligned Movement to promote cooperation, dialogue, sustainable development and youth participation.
Shagari called for prayers, encouragement and support as he begins the campaign, saying his ambition is driven by the desire to advance the ideals of the Non-Aligned Movement on the global stage.
He said youth cooperation remains critical at a time when young people across developing countries are seeking stronger representation in international decision-making spaces.
The contest is expected to draw attention across NAMYO member states, especially as Nigeria seeks to deepen its role in multilateral youth diplomacy and global youth leadership.
