The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ahiaukwu Ward 2, Umuahia South LGA of Abia State says it has ratified the six-month suspension placed on the APC State Secretary, Chidi Avajah and the acting Chairman of the Ward, Sylvester Onyekwere.
According a statement signed by Nwabueze Ndumele and Mr Ifeanyichukwu John Iteogu, the suspension followed allegations of constitutional breaches and running of a parallel executive by the suspended party officials.
The Ward leaders said that its executive committee adopted a disciplinary panel’s report after careful a consideration and consultation, adding that the duo were barred from representing the party for six months.
The Ahiaukwu Ward 2, however, said that the suspended Secretary and the former acting Chairman may be reconsidered for reinstatement after six months if they demonstrate remorse.
The controversy began last month when the party suspended Avajah for allegedly appointing Sylvester Onyekwere as acting Ward 2 chairman without consulting the congress-elected executives, sparking internal disputes within the APC’s Ahiaukwu Ward 2.
It would be recalled that the Chairman of the APC in Abia State, Kingsley Ononogbu had earlier nullified the suspension of Avajah and Onyekwere, saying that the actions of the members of Ahiaukwu Ward 2 did not follow due process.
He added that it contravened Section 31 Subsection 5(111) of the APC constitution.
