“Our enslavement and the rape of the services of our countries helped to lay the basis of present-day capitalism. Again, the Europeans have squandered their wealth on stupid wars and conflicts that could have been avoided. They have already proven that they have one mission in mind, irrespective of religion, politics, or cultural affiliation, and that mission is to dominate the world and all of its resources by any means necessary. Our mission should not be to conquer Europe but to contain Europe within its borders and let it be known that anything Europe wants from other parts of the world can be had through honorable trade.
“If we understand our mission, I think we will become aware of the fact that we are in a position to give the world a new humanity that will bring into being a new world of safety and respect for all people. The Nile River civilizations of Africa gave the world its first humanity, its first belief systems, its first social thought, and its first philosophy. With the restoration of self-confidence, we need to say to ourselves, “If we did it once, we can do it again.”
— Dr John Henrik Clarke
Dr Clarke, the towering Pan‑African griot who never softened his tongue for diplomatic niceties, stripped away the veneer of “civilisation” and exposed the raw intent of Europe – and its blood‑bound sister, America: to seize the globe, plunder its wealth, rewrite the narrative of their barbarism as progress cum civilization, and drown any dissent in fire, famine, and genocide.
No, Dr. Clarke was not indicting the West; the West’s blood-drenched history supported everything the great scholar said.
What is perplexing is to see some people, especially Africans, gasping with astonishment at the current horror show in Gaza. The question is, why the surprise? Why the pretense to be surprised? No one with even the most elementary knowledge of history ought to be surprised by any bloodletting by Europeans. Killing human beings on an industrial scale is what Europeans have been doing since the dawn of time. The savagery and barbarity of Europeans are well documented.
We, on our modest part, have chronicled these in many posts.
Listen to the great Fanon: European achievements, European techniques, and the European style ought no longer to tempt us and to throw us off our balance. When I search for the Man in the technique and the style of Europe, I see only a succession of negations of man, and the avalanche of murders.”
Who but an illiterate or a liar would deny that committing an unremitting orgy of violence is a staple of European history? Is it not Europeans who sat in Berlin and carved Africa up like a game, that is, after they had enslaved millions of our strongest and brightest? Why do some people pretend not to know that it was Europeans who birthed apartheid across Southern Africa, the United States, and now, occupied Palestine?
I repeat, hypocrisy is a sin.
Who but a fool or a hypocrite would be fooled by the polished faces on the BBC, CNN, DW, or Hollywood shedding crocodile tears when brown bodies burn, yet smiling smugly as their exotic wine glasses are refilled and settler colonists tighten their grip on Gaza?
To anyone who studied history, the carnage in Gaza is not an aberration. It is the inevitable continuation of European settler colonialism, this time cloaked in invented Hebrew, backed by the mythical Stars and Stripes, and justified by the liberal hypocrisy of “humanitarian concern.”
What we see in Gaza is the spiritual reincarnation of the Congo Free State, where King Leopold’s henchmen sliced off the hands of Black children for missing rubber quotas – parents were forced to watch the mutilation and the butchering of their children. The accursed Brits did the same thing to the Indians during their brutal colonization of that country.
However deep the veneer of PR, Gaza mirrors the Herero and Nama genocide (1904‑1908), when German colonials exterminated over 80 % of Namibia’s Herero, a first‑of‑the‑century genocide. I wrote about it in my article, Who Owns Papa’s Land – https://femiakogun.substack.com/p/who-owns-papas-land?r=3wwyw.
The Zealotry Zionist Settlers in Palestine are doing what the British did to the Mau Mau – a liberation movement British propaganda turned into a savage caricature. Like the people of Gaza today, Mau Mau freedom fighters were tortured, castrated, and hanged while British overlords sipped tea and gin and lime. The Dutch did the same thing in Indonesia and South America—the French in Algeria, the Sahel, and several other places.
So, Comrade, why do you feign surprise? Pick up serious history books and give yourself a good education.
To the sanctimonious West, where Are Your Human‑Rights Crusaders? Where is Amnesty International, your Human Rights Watch? Where are the Ivy League pundits and UN technocrats who once tallied African death tolls and lectured on democracy while their governments armed both sides?
Where is the “international community” that erupts in outrage when an African junta expels a French ambassador—yet yawns when settler bombs turn a Palestinian maternity ward to ash?
Dr Clarke was explicit: “Europe had no moral mission in Africa. They came for loot, and they stayed for domination.”
As I have written several times, the crimes of the Zionist Settlers would not be possible without the support of the West. It is the West that funds the bombs that vaporise Palestinian children, while Western officials give the genocidalists diplomatic cover, muttering BS about “Israel’s right to defend itself.”
Defend itself against what? The ancestors of today’s Palestinians were farmers and fishermen. They never invaded Europe. It was Europe—laden with guilt over its crimes against the Jews—that exported its problem to West Asia, creating the settler Frankenstein we now witness in its final, rabid phase.
Clarke’s books must become compulsory reading in every African school. Until we decolonise our minds, we will remain cheerleaders for our own oppression. We will lose our humanity. We will continue to consider with favor those whose massive crimes against us, against humanity, should condemn them forever.
Until we thoroughly decolonize our minds, we will keep naming our children after slave traders and genocidal queens. We will keep hanging portraits of European leaders who bombed our cousins yesterday. We will keep welcoming and revering people who should come to us as beggarly supplicants.
Dr John Henrik Clarke’s works are not merely history; they are survival manuals that should be mandatory reading in every African classroom.
From “Christopher Columbus and the Afrikan Holocaust” to “Afrikan People and European Holidays: A Mental Genocide,” Clarke ripped apart the myth that European history is a curated tale of salvation—a lie designed to convince victims that their oppressors are their saviours.
He told us, “The peoples of the world who have been victims of Europe have no obligation to love them. We only have an obligation to survive them.”
Every African pupil should memorise that line like scripture.
A quick catalogue of Europe’s greatest crimes:
* The trans‑Atlantic slave trade: four centuries of human theft, mass rape, cultural erasure, and inter‑generational trauma.
* The Scramble for Africa: a drunken orgy of colonial greed masquerading as civilisation.
* The Irish famine was not a potato blight but the British hoarding of food exports.
* The Opium Wars: Europe forcing narcotics on China to balance trade deficits—the original narco‑state.
* Australia: an entire continent stolen; Aboriginal children kidnapped, renamed, and “civilised” into extinction.
* The atomic bombings of Japan: not to end the war, but to flaunt Anglo‑American supremacy to the Soviets.
And now Gaza. The blood keeps flowing, and Europe tallies its arms‑sale profits.
If Russia, China, or any other nation backed such evil, the UN would convene an emergency session and adopt resolutions post‑haste. Europe merely shrugs and offers a perfunctory “deep concern.”
Gaza is not just a massacre—it is a mirror reflecting Europe. The Zionist settlers are doing in Palestine what Europeans did across Africa, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Americas.
What should truly terrify us is not the brutality of the West alone, but our continued delusion that these people are our friends. It is astounding that we have some Africans expressing support for the ideological Zionists in the naive belief that a god granted them special rights. Who buys an ogre would approve of those insanely cruel and heartless Central Europeans?
The real tragedy for our continent is not only the slaughter of Palestinians—though that is undeniably tragic—but the more profound tragedy is that Africans still send our brightest to study economics from looters, philosophy from colonisers, and diplomacy from warmongers.
We roll out big drums and dance silly when white presidents shake our hands. We erect statues of Queen Elizabeth and other European pirates, and we let French troops parade through our capitals while their governments fund the razing of Gaza neighbourhoods.
When will we learn?
Some of us—Dr Clarke, Walter Rodney, Fela Aníkúlápó‑Kúti, and humble voices like mine—have spent decades shouting from rooftops, pulpits, and classrooms:
Europe is not your friend, your saviour; it is the architect of your suffering.
Yet too many of our people still genuflect before European universities, courts, and churches built on bone and blood.
To those among us who still hero-worship Europe, if this butchery in Gaza does not open your eyes, you are beyond redemption. The real-time genocide in Palestine should tear away the last fig leaf.
Since it stole the compass and the gunpowder from the Chinese, Europe has been a clear and present danger to global life—to Africans, to Asians, to Palestinians, to Latin Americans, even to itself.
Clarke never called for conquest. He called for containment. “Our mission should not be to conquer Europe but to contain Europe within its borders and let it be known that anything Europe wants from other parts of the world can be had through honourable trade.”
Stop the bombs. Stop the settler colonialism. Stop the hypocrisy. Keep your borders, your institutions, and your fake peace prizes—but stay out of our lands, our minds, and our destinies.
We do not rejoice in the death of any innocent person—not in Palestine, not in Ukraine, not anywhere. But we say this: the butchery in Gaza confirms every word we have preached for over forty years.
Unfortunately, many Africans refuse to accept that the destruction of human lives on an industrial scale is a policy encoded in Europe’s DNA. As one gleeful U.S. official once boasted, with the casual cruelty only imperialists can muster: “We need to throw small countries against the wall now and then to keep them in check.”
If you still believe in the benevolence of Europe or so‑called European values, if you still send your children to worship their institutions, then you are not asleep—you are dead.
As Dr Clarke begged us, we may finally see Europe for what it is and protect ourselves from its endless hunger for domination.
Africa, wake up. Gaza is your mirror. Let the unimaginable suffering in Gaza be the final wake‑up call. Let it shatter our colonial stupor.
