A Seasoned Organist Wale Labiyi Is Dead

A seasoned, professional and creative  Organist of many years Mr Wale Labiyi is dead. Until his death he was the Chief organist of the Cathedral Church of  Advent of the Church of  Nigeria  Anglican  Communion in Abuja.

He passed on to glory on Sunday 11 February 2024 during a brief illness.

Newspot gathered from the family source that Mr Labiyi was at the 7 am and 10 am services on Sunday 11 February 2024 where he excitedly played the organ for the two services. Though his assistant played in between. Even at the end of the 10 am service, he was on the organ playing beautiful Christian tunes before he left for home

Newspot further gathered that he was hale and hearty till 10 pm  watching the Half Time  AFCON Final match between Nigeria and Ivory Coast.  He was said to be so excited that Nigeria was leading Ivory Coast.

However Mr Labiyi could not watch the second half as he took ill , rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.

His death has sent shock waves to entire members of  the Cathedral more especially members  of  Christian Men’s  Fellowship where Wale was an active member.

The early callers at his residence at 25 Borno Street, Area 10, adjacent the Federal Marriage Registry, Area 10 in Abuja were the Sub Dean of the Cathedral, Venerable Ephraim Akanya,  members of the Christian Men’s Fellowship,  Ven  Syrenius Dangana Okoriko, members of the Church choir and many others.

Arrangements for his interment are being worked out.
