A violent mob attack on the Egbedore Local Government Command of the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has left several officers injured and firearms stolen in Awo.
The incident, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2026, was confirmed by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, in an official statement.
According to preliminary findings, the crisis began when a civilian, reportedly fleeing an assault, ran into the Amotekun command office seeking protection. The victim was said to have been attacked following a disagreement linked to a football-related altercation from the previous day.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailant mobilized a group of armed hoodlums, who pursued the victim with dangerous weapons, including machetes. The victim managed to escape and was granted refuge by Amotekun officers on duty.
However, the situation escalated rapidly when the attackers regrouped and returned in significantly larger numbers, reportedly in the hundreds. The mob then launched a coordinated assault on the Amotekun facility.
During the attack, the hoodlums vandalized office infrastructure, destroyed operational equipment, and injured officers who attempted to defend the premises. The attackers also breached security within the command, further assaulted the victim, and carted away firearms belonging to the agency.
Despite the scale of the assault, Amotekun personnel were able to repel the attackers and restore a measure of order at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that five suspects were arrested during the incident and have been transferred to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Awo for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Amotekun Corps condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on Osun State’s security architecture and a troubling escalation of mob violence.
The agency assured residents that efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen weapons and apprehend other perpetrators involved in the attack.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and support ongoing investigations by providing credible information to law enforcement authorities.
