Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has ignited fresh controversy after sending a blistering “thank you” message to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of irresponsible behaviour and declaring that he “belongs to the zoo.”

The message, allegedly sent via SMS and released by Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, surfaced on Monday and has since sparked heated political debate nationwide.

According to Akinyemi, Fayose began by appreciating Obasanjo’s attendance at his 65th birthday celebration but quickly veered into insults, accusing the former President of making unguarded comments during the event.

“Dear Baba Obasanjo, I trust this meets you well. Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate except for your very irresponsible comments at your age. You went so low but am not surprised because someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo. Sincerely that’s where you belong.”

Fayose went further, calling Obasanjo a “mãd man,” accusing him of “loss of san!ty,” and demanding that the former President return money he allegedly admitted receiving.

Obasanjo’s reply, short but sharp, immediately went viral:

“Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it, and in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me.”

The fiery exchange, allegedly private until leaked to the media, originated from a report by Metronews Nigeria.
