Ibadan, Nigeria — Ambassador Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, a respected figure within the Oyo State Muslim community, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Barrister Bilal Akinola Husayn Akeugberu (widely known as Barrister Bilaah) on his recent appointment as the new Grand Imam of Oyo.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday, Agunbiade described the appointment as “well-deserved and divinely inspired,” praising the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdul Hakeem Owoade Elewuetu I, for what he called a “thoughtful and visionary decision that reflects fairness, scholarship, and true leadership.”
Agunbiade referenced his earlier public appeal published on August 8, 2025, titled “An Appeal to His Imperial Majesty: A Call for Visionary Leadership in Oyo’s Islamic Community” (The Mirror Online), where he had urged the monarch to prioritize scholarship, moral uprightness, and unity in the selection process of the next Grand Imam.
“Alhamdulillah! I heartily congratulate Sheikh Al Imam Barrister Bilaah Oseni Akinola on this most deserved selection as the Grand Imam of Oyo,”
Agunbiade said.
“This appointment is a recognition of his piety, academic distinction, and service to the Muslim Ummah. May Allah see him through and bless his leadership in the service of Islam and humanity. Aameen.”
He further commended the Alaafin for “responding to the yearnings of the Muslim community” and for his consistent promotion of religious harmony and intellectual leadership.
“The Alaafin’s choice of Barrister Bilaah reflects foresight and justice. It is a decision that will strengthen unity among Muslims in Oyo and inspire the younger generation,”
Agunbiade added.
The ambassador called on Muslim organizations, scholars, and residents of Oyo to support the new Grand Imam and work together toward peace, religious growth, and community development.
