…lauds Radio Stations for Supporting Governor Umo Eno’s Initiative on Ethical Reorientation

Sensitizing young people about the dangers of over-reliance on social media platforms for role models and yielding to peer pressure to indulge in violence, cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices has been identified as the driving motivation behind the ongoing “Say No Campaign” across schools in Akwa Ibom State.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno on Ethical Orientation, Rev. Dr. Osondu Ahirika, made this known on Monday while speaking as a guest on the programme ARISE Akwa Ibom on Comfort 95.1 FM, Uyo.

Dr. Ahirika explained that with the infiltration of cultism and drug abuse into primary and secondary schools, the campaign seeks to restore moral values, self-discipline, civic responsibility, respect for authority, community norms, and the courage to resist negative peer influence among pupils.

“The Say No Campaign is designed to be measurable. We want to see how students are inspired not only to resist cult recruitment and drug abuse but also to become positive change agents within their communities,” Dr. Ahirika stated.

He added that Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., remains passionate about encouraging young people to focus on academics and vocational skills, positioning them to contribute meaningfully to society through creativity, innovation, and volunteerism.

In a related development, while featuring on another programme on Passion 94.5 FM, Uyo, Dr. Ahirika revealed that several accomplished public figures and organizations have joined the campaign as ambassadors for change. Among them are Akparawa Michael Bush, Mr. Leo Leo Umana, Dr. Harrison Harrison, Sir Ubong Ubong Emem Ekefre, Comrade Nene Affia, Clement Warrie, and several NGOs.

These individuals, he said, have volunteered as mentors to help strengthen the campaign’s outreach to pupils across the state.

Dr. Ahirika commended radio stations and media outlets in Akwa Ibom for their enthusiastic support, noting that their partnership will go a long way in advancing Governor Umo Eno’s ethical reorientation initiative and shaping the moral future of the next generation.
