Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, under the banner of the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, have issued strong warnings ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for November.
The group, after a closed-door meeting held on Monday with the PDP National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, and other leaders, declared that the convention would be “invalid” if their resolutions were not implemented.
The meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, produced a communiqué read by former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom. In it, members emphasized their “collective commitment to the principles of equity, justice, inclusivity, and the rule of law,” describing these as the core values upon which the PDP was founded.
A major resolution was the outright rejection of any attempt at micro-zoning within the party. “Whereas we agree with the zoning committee’s recommendations, which were adopted by NEC, that the status quo remain, we further and very strongly hold that there should be no form of micro-zoning for peace and stability within the party,” the communiqué stated.
The stakeholders further insisted that the position of National Chairman must remain in the North-Central in line with the zoning formula of the 2021 convention. They also called on the National Working Committee (NWC) to urgently conduct fresh, transparent, and inclusive congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, in line with existing court judgments.
Additionally, they urged the NWC to uphold the outcome of the South-South Congress held in Calabar, Cross River State, and immediately conduct the pending Ekiti State local government congress.
The PDP convention in November is expected to shape the future leadership of the party, with Wike’s camp making it clear that peace and stability can only be guaranteed if these resolutions are respected.
