According to the Athletic, that’s seen United open talks with Leipzig to discover the conditions for a deal to sign Werner.
The German could be available on a loan deal, which would suit United as they can afford his wages but not necessarily a larger transfer fee.
United were interested in Werner in 2020 but they were chasing a deal for Jadon Sancho and chose to prioritise the Englishman.
The club now want to get rid of the likes of Sancho and Anthony Martial to make room for new signings, while they will listen to offers for Raphael Varane and Casemiro.
Donny van de Beek left the club on Monday to join Frankfurt on a season-long loan.
