The Katsina State Police Command on Tuesday said it had commenced an investigation into the murder of a councillor in the Funtua Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased, Samaila Mairago, was killed by gunmen on Monday night in his house located at Nasarawa Quarters, Funtua.
Residents said he was the councillor representing Nasarawa Ward of the local government.
It was learnt that the gunmen stormed the town on Monday night and headed for his residence.
The late councillor was reportedly shot dead in his residence.
It could not be ascertained whether the gunmen went away with any of his property after the attack.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation had already begun on the incident.
He, however, said no arrest had been made as of Tuesday morning.
“We have commenced an investigation into the incident. No arrest has been made so far but we shall keep you posted as the investigation progresses,” Aliyu said.
