Ange Postecoglou intends to pick Harry Kane in his Tottenham team on the opening weekend of the Premier League season as he promises the striker that he will have a lot of chances to score under his management.

Kane scored four times in a 5-1 friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday, looking very sharp a week before the new season gets underway.

Bayern Munich are continuing to pursue the England captain, but have seen offers turned down with Spurs insisting on £100m for their star man.

Reports suggest that the Germans have made a final bid of £82m and have set a deadline of midnight on Friday for it to be accepted or rejected.

Postecoglou is not concerning himself by that, though, and is planning to pick the forward on Sunday at Brentford.

‘There’s no doubt that I would use Harry [against Brentford],’ he said after the win over Shakhtar. ‘I didn’t need today to tell me that. He’s world class. The way this team will play will help him as well. We’ll create a lot of chances for him.

‘I’m in open dialogue with Harry and with the club on a regular basis. I’ve said to them that if the status quo changes then inform me. I don’t need to know about the comings and goings in between.

‘I’m working with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry certainly is invested in what we’re doing and we’ll keep on doing that unless something changes.’

On Bayern’s deadline, he said: ‘From my perspective, I don’t know what deadlines mean. We know there’s one deadline: that’s the end of the transfer window.’

‘I certainly wouldn’t talk about contracted players at other clubs. I’m not at Bayern though so they can do what they want.’

Kane is not the only subject of interest for Spurs this summer, with their manager admitting there is going to be more business before the transfer window closes.

The Australian says there will be more players sold and additions in the middle of defence, which will include the arrival of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

‘It’s fair to say our squad is too big at the moment and there are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I’m not involved in that. I think we’ll see some movement out in the coming weeks,’ he said.

‘It’s not done yet. We need bolstering in that central defensive area. We need defenders who can work in an aggressive formation, defend well & behind them. We’ll be looking to bring in a couple in that area in the coming days.’
