The Yobe State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has advised eligible voters in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, for the forthcoming general elections.

Newspot recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it had registered 1.3 million eligible voters in the state.

However, it said as of December 2022, over 78,000 eligible voters are yet to collect their PVCs.

In a communiqué issued by the NUJ Chairman and Secretary, Rajab Mohammed and Alhassan Mamudo, in Damaturu after their congress meeting, it appealed to eligible voters to collect their PVCs and exercise their voting rights.

It advised all working journalists in the state to remain apolitical while working to salvage the country, just as it advised them always to observe the principles of objectivity, balance and fairness in the discharge of their reportorial duties.

The communiqué further appealed to politicians in the state to always concentrate on issue-based campaigns across the state.

According to the communiqué, five delegates were nominated during the Congress to represent the Council at the Special Delegates’ Conference (SDC) in Kano on January 24 to 27, 2023.
