Yobe govt confirms attack on Geidam community

Yobe State government has confirmed an attack on Ngurokayya village in Geidam Local Government Area.

Special Adviser to Governor Buni on Security Matters Brig Gen Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd) gave the confirmation on Wednesday while briefing newsmen about the outcome of an emergency security meeting presided over by the governor.

“It is true that we have some cases of attacks in parts of Geidam Local Government Area. The attacks were targeted at soft targets by the insurgents and some casualties were recorded.

“However, the Yobe State Government, as part of its responsibility to ensure the security and safety of the citizenry, convened this meeting today and all the burning issues were discussed,” he said.

On whether Boko Haram insurgents are collecting levies and taxes in communities in the Geidam axis, the special adviser denied the claim, thereby describing it as a rumour.

“The issue of insurgents collecting taxes or levies still remains in the realm of rumour mongering, because so far we have not seen anybody who has said I have paid a certain amount as levy, tax, or ransom.

According to him, the council has tasked security agencies in the state to redouble their efforts and dominate the entire area to ensure that criminals do not have the space to operate and oppress the citizens of the state, especially in Geidam Local Government Area.
