The Director-General of the Youth Alliance for Tinubu and Shettima (YATS), Hon. Oche Silas, has called on Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s democratic heroes and recommit themselves to the ideals of unity, justice, peace, and good governance.
In his Democracy Day message, Silas described democracy as the foundation of Nigeria’s progress, noting that it provides citizens with a voice in governance and an opportunity to contribute to national development.
He urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Democracy Day to celebrate the country’s democratic journey while strengthening their commitment to the principles that sustain democratic governance.
According to him, the nation’s founding fathers and pro-democracy advocates made significant sacrifices to secure the freedoms and democratic rights enjoyed by citizens today. He stressed the importance of preserving those gains through active civic participation and respect for democratic institutions.
Silas also commended the efforts of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders working to strengthen democratic institutions and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
He expressed support for policies and initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth, enhancing national security, and expanding social inclusion across the country.
The YATS Director-General further encouraged young Nigerians to remain law-abiding, patriotic, and actively involved in the democratic process. He noted that youth participation remains critical to the country’s future and the continued development of democratic governance.
Silas emphasized that national unity and collective responsibility are essential to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria. He urged citizens to work together in support of peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Democracy Day is observed annually on June 12 to commemorate Nigeria’s democratic journey and honour those who played key roles in the struggle for democratic governance.
