England held their nerve to beat Fiji in a tense quarter-final clash in Marseille, ensuring progression to next week’s Rugby World Cup 2023 semi-finals.

Having led 24-10 heading into the final quarter, England’s lead soon evaporated with two quickfire Fijian tries bringing the scores level.

However, six points from the boot of captain Owen Farrell – first through a drop goal and then through a penalty – saw England nudge ahead in the dying embers of the game.

A mammoth rearguard action was then mounted as the clock struck 80 minutes, with England surviving for a whole five minutes after the clock entered the red.
