‘Women’s football growing at phenomenal rate’

‘The inaugural Women’s Football Awards was a massive success and now here we are back again, bigger than before, and have quickly established this prestigious event as a staple of the football calendar,’ Metro Editor-In-Chief Deborah Arthurs said in her speech.

‘All of us at Metro and our sister publications are delighted to be part of this event. These awards are unique because all of those on the shortlist have been nominated and voted for by the public, with a staggering 25,000+ people taking part, including thousands of Mertro.co.uk readers!

‘There can be no doubt women’s football is growing at a phenomenal rate and that is all down to the dedication and commitment of so many people in this room and beyond.

‘Tonight is of course a moment of celebration, and all of our nominees should be incredibly proud, yet there is still much more to do to support the growth of women’s football and continue the momentum we’ve seen in women’s football in recent years – it is something I am passionate about and will continue to push for greater content across all Metro platforms.

‘As we come together this evening, we are continuing to raise the bar for the women’s game. This is another big moment and everyone here should be proud to be involved.

‘This really is a special event which is all about celebrating and elevating the game and it is fantastic to have Eni Aluko and Jamie Carragher back as our hosts.’
