The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba State has expressed satisfaction with the level of workers’ compliance with the ongoing two-day warning strike embarked upon by the union.
Speaking shortly after going round Jalingo, the state capital, Taraba NLC chairman Peter Jediel, who said the action was aimed at ensuring full compliance, said the leadership of the union is satisfied with the attitude of workers towards the industrial action.
Lamenting that the amount released to each state of the federation by the federal government as palliatives is “grossly inadequate,” he said NLC will not rest on its oars until the government at the centre deems it fit to do the needful.
Jediel further disclosed that the state chapter of the union had worked round the clock in preparation for today.
He added: “We sent a message across the state calling on workers to vacate their offices in solidarity with our national colleagues following the hardship we are passing through as a result of the subsidy removal.”
According to him: “If the Federal Government fails to attend to our plight after this two-day warning strike, we may consider a 14-day ultimatum, after which we will embark on a total shutdown of the country until steps are taken by the government to address the excruciating mass suffering and the impoverishment being experienced in the country.”
Newspot observed workers’ total compliance with the ongoing warning strike as activities in various ministries, departments, and agencies visited were brought to a standstill.
Banks were not spared, as business activities were also shut down.
