Retired Venerable Joshua Adediran Alakinde Adebamiwa of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has passed on to glory at the age of 90. He was looking forward to his 91st birthday on March 22 when death came calling.
Venerable Adebamiwa entered priesthood in the late 60s. Family source said his death was seamless. “On Sunday evening 25 February 2024 he took a meal of pap and went to sleep. At 3 am of Monday 26 February 2024 he woke up called his first son Wale and prayed for him then went to sleep. At 6 am when it was time for morning prayer he could not wake up as he slipped away to the world beyond.”
Venerable Adebamiwa was a flamboyant and priest deep in the undiluted word of God. In his lifetime he was loved for his erudite delivery of powerful sermons on the pulpit. His early job took him to the then University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University in the early 70s as hostel warden It was in Ife he got a nickname ” modern reverend There after, left the university to pastor a church at Esie- Iludun in Kwara State. There after he was transferred to Ibadan as the pastor of Saint Annes Anglican Church Molete Ibadan. From there he was moved to St Peter’s Church Aremo in Ibadan . From Aremo to Modakeke to Olupona in Iwo. From Olupona The Most Rev’d Abiodun Adetiloye invited him to serve as an Assistant Priest at the Cathedral Church of Christ l Marina in Lagos. From Marina to Iju and later Ojo where he retired.
He is married to Christiana Oluwakaikun Adebamiwa ( nee Olamiti) . They are blessed with children and grandchildren.
Venerable Adebamiwa was from Moro near Ile-Ife but his parents settled in Ede Osun State. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
