US Navy saves almost $300million after cancelling wasteful contracts, 45 grants, awards funding

The United States Navy has saved almost $300million after cancelling wasteful IT contracts, 45 grants and awards funding.

This was disclosed by Secretary of the US Navy, John C. Phelan.

Phelan stated this in a post via his X account on Thursday night.

According to him, the IT contracts are ineffective and over-budget.

Phelan wrote, “BREAKING: As Secretary of the Navy, I’m focused on ensuring accountability, cutting waste and strengthening our fighting forces.

“Today, I’m canceling IT contracts that are ineffective and over-budget. I’m also canceling 45 grants and awards funding non-essential activities like studying the population consequences of the disturbance of humpback whales in the context of climate change.

“By eliminating this waste, we will save almost $300 million,” he said.

Phelan also commended the Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, for helping the US Navy to achieve the task.

“I commend the DOGE team for finding these opportunities to help save the Navy and increase our readiness and war-fighting capability.

“Stay tuned — there’s more to come,” he added.
