In a revealing post on Truth Social this afternoon, U.S. President Donald J. Trump disclosed details of a one-hour phone call he received from Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier today. The call, initially to wish Trump a happy birthday, reportedly evolved into a serious diplomatic conversation touching on global tensions, including the conflict between Israel and Iran, Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, and ongoing prisoner swaps.
According to Trump, both leaders agreed that the hostilities between Israel and Iran “should end.” The former president also noted that he used the opportunity to assert that Russia’s war — presumed to refer to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine — should also come to a conclusion.
“Much time was spent talking about Russia/Ukraine, but that will be for next week,” Trump posted. He added that Putin “is doing the planned prisoner swaps — large numbers of prisoners are being exchanged, immediately, from both sides.”
While the post did not specify the nationality or identity of the prisoners being swapped, it is likely linked to longstanding negotiations between Russia and Western countries, possibly including the U.S., over high-profile detainees.
