Traffic diverted as petrol, gas tankers crash on Lagos-Ibadan highway

A tanker laden with petrol and another one conveying gas have crashed along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday.

The crash, which also involved a truck, occurred around Christopher University, Ogun State, on the outward section of the expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) told Newspot that the accident happened on Saturday evening.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said efforts are being made to avoid a fire outbreak.

Okpe said men of the fire service have been contacted, while the scene of the crash was cordoned off “to avoid a secondary crash.”

According to her, traffic has been diverted to the other lane, while the “FRSC operatives and other sister organizations are on ground managing the situation.”

She explained that efforts are ongoing to remove the crash vehicles from the road to ease traffic on the highway.

“Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, be lane disciplined when approaching the scene of the crash and also follow instructions by traffic managers managing the situation,” Okpe stated.
