Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Micky van de Ven could make his comeback from injury in Tottenham’s FA Cup clash this weekend.

But there is yet more bad injury news for Spurs, with young forward Alejo Veliz set to be out for ‘a couple of months’.

Spurs host Burnley on Friday night in the FA Cup third round and fans will be hoping the team’s good league form can translate to cup success.

However, the North Londoners are having to contend with a severe injury crisis, but thankfully one star is now out of the treatment room, with Van de Ven back in training after injuring his hamstring in the defeat to Chelsea in early November.

And Postecoglou has now confirmed that the centre-back, who has performed brilliantly since his summer move from Wolfsburg, may feature against the Clarets.

‘Micky has trained this week. He’s been involved for three sessions,’ the manager said in his pre-match press conference.

‘Not sure about tomorrow’s game but he might be involved in the squad. It’s good to get him back. Obviously, he’s missed a fair bit so we’ll have to be careful with him.’

Veliz was set to see a lot more action in January and February due to Son Heung-min’s participation in the Asian Cup, but the 20-year-old was forced off during Spurs’ last game against Bournemouth.

Postecoglou has confirmed the worst, adding: ‘Alejo hurt his knee the other day. Unfortunately it was a fairly significant injury. He had a scan on it which will keep him out for a little while.

‘It doesn’t look like he’ll need surgery but it’ll be a couple of months which is disappointing because he worked really hard for his opportunity and you could be he was developing the last couple of weeks, so unfortunate for him.’

The manager also gave an update on Cristian Romero and James Maddison, perhaps the two biggest names on the injury list:

‘[Maddison] is not training with us yet. As I say I won’t know until he’s back with in training with us and how he’s getting on.

‘Cristian is still at the early stages [of his recovery].’
