Valeria Márquez, a popular TikTok influencer from Mexico, met a tragic end on Tuesday when she was shot dead during a livestream from her beauty salon, Blossom the Beauty Lounge, in Jalisco, Mexico. The 23-year-old social media star had voiced her fears about being killed just minutes before the fatal incident, leaving her fans and the online community in shock.
In the livestream, Márquez expressed anxiety, saying, “Maybe they were going to kill me… Were they going to come and take me away, or what? I’m worried.” Moments later, a man posing as a delivery driver, accompanied by another man on a motorcycle, handed her a stuffed animal and a bag of Starbucks coffee. Shortly after, she was shot in the head and chest by one of the men.
According to the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect appeared unfamiliar with Márquez, suggesting that he may have been a hired gunman. The office also disclosed that they are investigating potential connections between her death and the murder of a former congressman that occurred in the same area hours earlier.
Márquez’s death has reignited discussions about the alarming femicide crisis in Mexico, where an estimated 50,000 women have been killed since 2001, with around 10 women or girls murdered each day. The case has drawn significant attention due to Márquez’s online presence, where she showcased a glamorous lifestyle to nearly 200,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram.
Mexican authorities are continuing their investigation, looking into possible ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, a notorious criminal organization known for violent tactics.
