Members of the Katsina State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Wednesday joined their counterparts in observing the nationwide protest against the hardships being experienced by Nigerians due to some recent government policies among which was the removal of fuel subsidy.

The members, among who were those from various affiliated unions, had converged on the state headquarters, along Kano Road. They were about to embark on the protest march when this report was filed.

According to the Katsina NLC Chairman, Hussaini Hamisu, the protest march would see members marching through Steel Rolling Mill roundabout, WTC roundabout after which they would
return to the headquarters where he would make a public address.

Hamisu clarified that the Wednesday action was a protest to “send a message across on the sufferings of Nigerians”.

He added that further actions to be taken after the protest would be determined by the organised Labour national headquarters after it would have studied the reports submitted by the various chapters of the union on the protest.

Hamisu said, “Today’s protest is being observed throughout the country and Katsina State has joined. Further actions to be taken will be determined by the NLC national headquarters after each state chapter has submitted its report on the protest and the national headquarters has studied the report.

“You know, today’s protest is not a strike. It is meant to send a message about hardships being faced by the poor Nigerians due to the Federal Government’s recent decisions among which is the removal of fuel subsidy.”

The state police command had deployed some of its operatives in various parts of the state capital, including the NLC main entrance.
