Members of the Jigawa State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) joined their counterparts on Wednesday to stage a protest against the current hardship Nigerians are going through due to the fuel subsidy removal.

The union members from various affiliated labour unions converged on the Dutse Eid ground, from where they marched to the streets and Government House.

Addressing the gathering, the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Sanusi Alasan Maigatari, said the move was to protest the policies imposed by the federal government that inflict hardship on Nigerians.

“We started with a nationwide protest to press our demand to the government. We will continue to do that while awaiting further directives from national headquarters.

“The government should, as a matter of urgency, speed towards the implementation of programmes to alleviate the suffering of the common man.

“Nigerians are dying of hunger and hardship because they don’t have money to go to hospitals, and workers are spending 70 per cent of their salaries to go to their place of work,” Maigatari said.

Addressing the protesters, the Jigawa State Governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Usman Gumel, promised to convey the NLC message to the governor.

He called on the protesters to be law-abiding citizens and also promised to consider their demands.
