The PUNCH reports that the prosecution counsel Fidelis Ogbobe, withdrawing the case on behalf of Mrs Buhari, said the First Lady, being the mother of the nation, decided to withdraw the case, following the intervention of “well-meaning Nigerians.”

Moving a motion for the withdrawal of the case, Ogbobe cited section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court commended the First Lady for withdrawing the case.

Lauding the withdrawal of suit against the student, NANS National PRO, Giwa Temitope, said, “The withdrawal of the frivolous case that was instituted against Mohammed by Aisha Buhari based on the opinion he expressed on his Twitter handle signals victory for all Nigerian students.

“Once again, we have been proven right that “silence is not golden” and that ‘if we fight, we may win, but if we don’t, we have lost.’

“However, it needs to be put on proper record that our opposition to the abduction, detention and kangaroo court case against Mohammed is informed by our penchant for social justice and the advancement of human rights across borders.

“We call on all Nigerian students to exercise their freedom to the latter in accordance with the stipulations of the Nigerian Constitution and be rest assured of our commitment towards their cause.”
