Lawmaker representing the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Abdul Ahmed Ningi has called for a thorough investigation into reports alleging that contractors working with the federal government were being owed payment for projects completed since 2024

There have been speculations that most contractors handling Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies’ projects have not been paid since October 2024.

Newspot recalls that the House of Representatives on May 8, summoned the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Yemi Cardoso, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu and other top government officials over the development.

Speaking during Tuesday’s plenary, Senator Ningi put to rest, rumours that the government may be lacking fund to pay the contractors.

He urged the upper legislative chamber to urgently mandate the committee on appropriation to find out why the payments were not made.

He said, ā€œMost of the constituency projects that I know of, almost 80 percent were completed six months before today.

ā€œYou begin to hear rumours that the minister of finance and the office of the accountant general are picking and choosing projects they will finance; this is not right.

ā€œI think the committee on appropriation should be saddled with the investigation. Give them a mandate of two weeks to present a report before this chamber why what is happening is happeningā€.
