Former Super Eagles winger, Femi Opabunmi, narrates how he went from grace to grass.

Opabunmi was born and raised in Plateau State before his father was transferred to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In his early years, he played for boys’ clubs like Greater Tomorrow, Young Star, and Cocoa Research.

He also played for a few clubs, including Shooting Stars FC, Grasshoppers Zürich (Switzerland), Hapoel Be’er Sheva, and Chamois Niortais in France, where his challenges started.

Opabunmi said he developed difficulty seeing while still playing football and had to visit an eye specialist. He added that his eye didn’t get better after several tests and surgery, and he had to return to Nigeria.

The ex-footballer said quitting football while still active was a bitter experience.
