A Russian MMA fighter is facing a lifetime ban after knocking out his opponent with a head kick during a boxing match.

Idris Abdurashidov has already amassed an impressive 4-0 record in mixed martial arts, including two stoppage wins inside 18 seconds and 22 seconds.

The 21-year-old made his professional boxing debut in Phuket, Thailand on Saturday night and appeared to be sliding towards a defeat to Iran’s Bagher Faraji.

Under pressure in the fourth round, however, Abdurashidov stepped away from Bagher before unleashing a vicious and illegal head kick on his unsuspecting opponent.

The shot knocked the Iranian unconscious immediately, falling facefirst to the canvas as the referee stepped in to stop the fight and disqualify Abdurashidov.

After the bout, the Russian athlete posted a clip bragging about the knockout but also claiming that he may be disqualified ‘for life’.

‘So I debuted in professional boxing, and disqualification for life,’ he said. ‘That kick with the leg, I threw like a machine gun.’

Abdurashidov later shared another post of himself alongside Faraji who had won the first two fights of his professional boxing career by TKO.

Shaking hands, the caption read: ‘We shook hands between us, everything is fight, we made up.’

Fans of the sport, however, were not so quick to forgive the Russian.

‘You were getting embarrass[ed] and you had to cheat. Classless and I’m glad you’re banned for life. 0-1 boxing,’ one user wrote.

Another said: He should be arrested for assault and battery, and banned from doing any combat sports ever again. That is so low.’

‘Unsportsmanlike conduct from a person who should not compete. It was a boxing match. Not kickboxing,’ replied another.

Faraji, meanwhile, has since posted a video with further clips from the bout and thanked fans for their support.
