As Valentine’s Day approached, a husband and wife found themselves discussing how to celebrate. The husband would be at work all day, and by the time he returned home, he knew he would be exhausted. Sensing the likely rush and fatigue, the wife smiled and said, “Then I will spend Valentine’s Day sitting at Jesus’ feet.”
Her husband quickly responded, half joking and half serious, “You shouldn’t sit at another man’s feet.”
The wife gently reminded him of the story of Mary and Martha, where Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen while Martha busied herself with preparations. The husband then asked, “If Mary had been married, would her husband have allowed her to sit at Jesus’ feet?”
Beyond the humor lies a deeper reflection. Valentine’s Day celebrates love, but true love finds its deepest source in Christ. Sitting at Jesus’ feet is not a rejection of marital devotion; it strengthens it. A heart devoted to Christ learns patience, sacrifice, and sincerity, the very ingredients that sustain lasting love.
And yet, considering the customs of that time, would any husband in those days have literally allowed his wife to sit at Jesus’ feet?
Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️
