Over 500, 000 Residents of Ashipa, Odo – Ona Elewe and part of Elebu in Ibadan Oyo State of Nigeria will celebrate Yuletide and New Year in darkness.
For the past eight months the residents of these areas have been suffering from epileptic supply of electricity.
The newspot correspondent living in Ashipa has this to report.
“The Ibadan Electricity Distributions Company IBEDC has programmed these areas to only four hours of electricity starting from 12 midnight to four am.
“A times supply of electricity may last for two hours. The residents have gone to complain many times to the head of IEBDC to do something about this act they described as deliberate to suffer those living in these areas.
To buttress this allegation, the resident referred to areas not far from these areas that are virtually enjoying uninterrupted electricity supply.
A resident Mr Amos Adeyanju said ” Those working at IEBDC are looking for those who can play to their tune by choosing areas who are ready to make unorthodox payments for supply.
” From a reliable source IEBDC officials are not dispensing electricity with absolute sincerity backed with integrity”.
Madam Kofo Adepoju owner of a grocery store lamented: ” I feel ashamed that I belong to this country where there is a discriminating, supply in electricity. I am finding it difficult to keep using generator.
“I am sending SOS to Mr President to intervene in this discriminatory attitude of IEBDC. They are distributing electricity to those who can oil their pockets. ”
